Superintendent's Welcome

It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Gateway School District website.  Our faculty and staff are committed to providing a quality education to our children in an effort to help them reach their fullest potential and to prepare them for their future endeavors.  We have a strong academic program, and we challenge all students with a curriculum that fosters critical thinking, and learning experiences that encourage children to become life-long learners.  We partner with the community and its agencies for resources to assist our students in realizing their talents, and we are proud of the role our community plays in supporting our children.  We are dedicated to providing an education that not only meets the academic needs of the students, but also considers their physical, emotional, and social development.

We are located in the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and we service over 3,600 students of the diverse communities of Monroeville and Pitcairn.  Our four neighborhood elementary schools house grades kindergarten through fourth grade and include Evergreen Elementary, University Park Elementary, Dr. Cleveland Steward, Jr. Elementary, and Ramsey Elementary.  Our two middle schools house grades five and six at Moss Side Middle, and grades seven and eight at Gateway Middle.  Gateway High School houses ninth through twelfth grade students and partners with Boyce Middle College to provide an alternative high school placement.

Academically, we offer a wide range of programs to meet the needs of our students including a broad Special Education Program and Advanced Placement and Honors Courses.  Many of our faculty hold advanced degrees and recognize the need to stay informed of current trends and research in education.  We work closely with our parents throughout the entire year, and all schools have active Family-Teacher Organizations.
