AIM - Gifted and Talented Program
Gifted Philosophy and Beliefs
Higher levels of thinking are the foundation of learning while preparing a diverse gifted population to be productive leaders of an information society. This belief reflects a command of skills that also helps individuals reach their maximum potential. The gifted curriculum equips students to use their research, critical thinking, and problem solving skills with competence. The instructional plan provides a supportive environment in numerous activities that enable each student to participate in accelerated or enrichment programs or both and to receive services according to their intellectual and academic abilities and needs.
In order for students to develop skills, our curriculum will:
- provide a learning environment which is particularly suited to the needs, interest and abilities of gifted children
- utilize existing basic education and alternative educational strategies which provide for enriched and/or accelerated education
- provide opportunities for gifted children to develop productive relationship with peers
- provide an awareness and commitment on the part of parents, teachers, administrators and community to assist in meeting the needs of gifted students.
- use a variety of assessment tools to guide instruction and monitor student progress for preparation of the Gifted Individualized Education Program (GIEP).
