WELCOME TO THE GATEWAY SCHOOL DISTRICT MUSIC DEPARTMENT
MUSICDEPTGFX HALF
"Use the talents that you possess, for the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except the best."

- Henry Van Dyke

The commitment of the Gateway School District to music education is grounded in the recognition of the importance and value of music for the individual, the community and the world.  Music is the aural art form, which satisfies the human need to respond to life experiences.  This is evidenced by the pervasiveness of music throughout history in all cultures.  Research confirms that all persons have innate potential to create music.  Therefore, music instruction will be included in the school curriculum so that all students may realize this potential and participate more fully in the human experience.

Our school curriculum will:

  • Offer a planned sequential and cyclical music curriculum, grades kindergarten through 12, taught by certified music educators.
  • Provide experiences for all students in general, choral and instrumental music settings.
  • Provide a variety of music experiences that include performing, listening, responding and creating.
  • Provide multicultural and historical perspectives of music that reflect a wide diversity of people, styles and times.
  • Provide modes for assessing students’ development in music that are appropriate to the aural nature of the art.
  • Provide an environment that encourages creative, musical responses.
  • Promote activities designed to explore music-related careers that lead to occupational or lifetime associations with music.

We appreciate your interest in K-12 music education.  Please review the links below for more information on the Gateway Music Department.
