Preliminary Summary of 2011-2012 Gateway School District PSSA Performance
By accessing the link below, you will be able to preview a local summary of recent PSSA performance for students enrolled in grades 3-8 and 11 for the 2011-2012 school year. The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) through the assistance of Data Recognition Corporation (DRC) will release an official “district report card” sometime in October. Once received, our district website will be enhanced to include a hyperlink to this particular document.
While 2011-2012 PSSA performance has resulted in the district being assigned the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) status of “Warning” due to Math performance across the district, administration would like to ensure all stakeholders that extensive math curriculum revisions were initiated as of April 2011, with our Gateway Board of School Directors having just formally adopted these revisions on August 22, 2012. These curricular enhancements will expose our students to a more rigorous curriculum that is not only more closely assigned to State and National standards but also includes authentic learning experiences that may be differentiated within individual classrooms based on student interest, learner profile, and readiness levels.
Similarly, while Gateway High School has been assigned the AYP status of “Corrective Action 2” due to the performance of last year’s Juniors on the 2011-2012 PSSA, other measures indicate that Gateway High School students continue to perform at high levels. Namely, the average ACT scores earned by Gateway High School students during the 2011-2012 school year have once again exceeded the State average. Our current ACT performance represents the continuation of a pattern that was established by Gateway High School students in 2009. Additionally, Advanced Placement (AP) scores earned by Gateway High School students continue to be strong as well, with current data indicating that 82% of Gateway High School students having completed AP exams in 2011-2012 earned a minimum score of 3 out of a maximum score of 5.
