Gateway School District Web Site Accessibility
In an effort to make the Gateway School District Web site accessible to all users, this page has been created to explain how the Web site works. This page includes information about features that have been added to the site to increase accessibility, how the pages of the site are structured, how the navigational system works, and descriptions of some of the most useful features on the site.
Two links to this page are provided on each page of the Web site. The first link is specifically designed to be accessible by screen readers and other assistive technologies and is not visible to other site users. This link is located near the beginning of each page. The second link is located in the footer navigation and is available to all users.
The topics covered on this page are listed in the following menu. Each menu item is a link to jump directly to the topic. At the end of each topic is a link to return to this menu.

The site is structured around the different schools that make up the Gateway School District. Each school has its own section within the site, and there is a section for information that affects the entire school district.
All pages of the site are divided into three or four sections. This format remains consistent throughout the site.
Section one includes the primary navigation for the site, in which you can access links to the main pages of all of the schools in the district and the main page of the section of the site that includes information for the entire school district.
Section two contains the content on that page.
Section three contains the footer navigation links, in which you can access administrative and informational pages such as a site map, a list of frequently asked questions, contact information, and a link to this page.

At the beginning of each page are two links to the home page for the entire site. The links are identified with the text (Link to Gateway School District Home Page).
The primary link includes links to all nine of the main pages on the site: one for each school and one for district information. After following one of these links to a main page, the navigation for this area will "expand". This provides access to the pages that are within this area. Links to all the main pages are always located below this "expanded" navigation.
There is also a link that enables you to bypass the links to the other main pages, labeled "Skip top level navigation links to other sections of the site and proceed to page content," to enable users employing screen readers to more quickly access the content of each page.
The footer navigation links remain constant throughout the site.

On each page of this site is a Quick Find feature that enables you to link directly to some of the most frequently accessed areas of the site. The Quick Find feature requires JavaScript to function. If you are using a browser that does not support JavaScript or you have disabled it, the Quick Find feature will not appear on the the page.
Please note that the Quick Find feature is a combo-box form element that will dynamically load the selected page when an option is chosen. All of the pages available in the Quick Find feature can be found while navigating the site.

The site map provides a direct link to all of the pages on the Gateway School District Web site. The links are organized to reflect the navigational structure of the site. Each main section of the site can be "expanded" to offer all of the pages in that section by activating the page name link. To jump directly to a page from the site map, activate the "Go" link that follows the page name.
The site map feature requires JavaScript to function. An alert message will notify you if you are using a browser that does not support JavaScript or you have disabled it.

A keyword search form is present on all pages of the site and is located in the first section of a site page.
The keyword search will search the entire Gateway School District Web site and will return the pages that match the word or words that you entered into the form. The results are ordered so the pages that most closely match are listed first. If your search includes a large number of results, the results will be divided into several pages. Each page includes ten results. Each result is a hyperlink to a page on the site. Immediately following the link is a brief description of the page. This description will help you determine if the page includes the information you are searching for.

The event calendar enables you to search for events throughout the Gateway School District. A link to the event calendar is present on each page of the site. The link is named "Calendar."
Event Search Form
A form is used to search for events. The form consists of two sections. The first section is a combo-box that enables you to select a particular school for which to search events or to search for events throughout the entire school district. The second section of the form consists of two sets of combo-boxes in which you enter a date range for your events search. After completing both sections of the form, activating the "Search" button will submit your search.
If you make any mistakes completing the form, the form page will refresh and messages explaining what corrections need to be made will be displayed above the form.
Event Search Results
After successfully submitting the form, the events that match your search are displayed below the search form. At the beginning of the list is a summary of your search criteria. Following this is a list of the events, ordered chronologically. Each event in the list includes the event title, the location, the date and time, and a brief description. Each event also includes links to ma details page that provides additional information.

Users having difficulty reading the text are encouraged to take one or more of the following actions to increase the size of the text.
Internet Explorer Browser Users
Enable the accessibility feature within the "Internet Options" menu that permits text size to be increased. Follow these instructions to access this menu:
- From the "Tools" option in the menubar at the top of the browser window, select "Internet Options".
- The Internet Options menu will open. Select the "Accessibility" button near the bottom.
- The Accessibility menu will open. Check the checkbox labeled "Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages."
- Select the "OK" button. The Accessibility menu will close. The Internet Options menu will remain.
- Select the "OK" button. The Internet Options menu will close.
Now that the accessibility feature has been enabled, follow these instructions to increase the text size:
- Select "View" from the menubar at the top of the browser window.
- A menu will appear. Select "Text Size."
- Choose the text size that best enables you to view the site.
Netscape Navigator Browser Users
- From the menubar at the top of the browser window, select "View."
- A menu will appear. Select "Text Zoom."
- Choose the text size that best enables you to view the site.
