October 2022 Edition

The fun stuff:

Be a Friend Fridays continue on with our first graders chiming in on the morning announcements about what they think it means to be a good friend.

I’ve had the opportunity to be in the classrooms this past month and am so happy to see the kids thrive both academically and socially!

Bullying Prevention Week is 10/10-10/14

In the spirit of inclusion, friendship and acceptance the week of 10/11-10/14 each classroom will complete anti-bullying type activity for display outside their rooms.

On Friday 10/14 each homeroom teacher will take their students for a walk around the school to see the other students work as an "Anti-bullying Walk" or "Walk a mile in another's shoes".

I will continue my read alouds this month in grades 2 & 3 with "Enemy Pie” and “The Invisible Boy”.

Important Dates:

No School for Students 10/10

ALICE Tabletop discussions 10/18.

Upcoming Events

Scholastic Book Fair--Tuesday October 25. Students will be able to shop during school hours as well as with family during after school hours! More information to come including online shopping access and e-wallet instructions. Volunteers are needed to help set up the book fair on Monday 10/24 in the afternoon as well as to assist with shopping/check out Tuesday. Please sign up through Sign Up Genius HERE! Please note: daytime volunteers for shopping on Tuesday will need to have INDEPENDENT Clearances.

Family STEAM Night--Tuesday October 25, 6:30-8pm. Join us for a fun night of all things science! This event will be FREE to all families but RSVPs are required to ensure appropriate supplies are available. Sign up via Google form HERE! A huge thank you to Monroeville Public Library, Duquesne Women in STEM and the Quasics robotic club for participating in this event. The book fair will also be open during this time and we will have some cool science raffle baskets!

Pumpkin Patch/Fall Class Parties--Friday October 28th

Students will all get to choose a pumpkin from the Ramsey Pumpkin Patch to take home! The afternoon will bring the Halloween Parade (outside, weather permitting) and classroom celebrations!  During the parade the kids will exit the building at the library doors at approximately 2:00 and enter at door 8. Parents who are spectating should stand in the grass or parking lot, leaving the sidewalk open for the students.

We are looking for volunteers to help set up the Pumpkin patch and during the class visits (Sign Up Genius). For the classroom celebrations 2 parent volunteers per classroom will be able to sign up (HERE) to help facilitate costume changes for the parade, a snack and pumpkin decorating. Any additional activities for the celebration can be coordinated between the volunteers and home room teacher. Parents will be required to scan their ID at the door to gain entry to the school if they are scheduled to volunteer this day.  *We will notify families as soon as we can via an email blast if the weather is not conducive for an outdoor parade, as parents/guardians will not be permitted into the vestibule or building to watch.

Veterans Day Recognition--November 11th.

This year we will again be honoring our Ram Fam Vets with a Virtual Parade. Please submit your Veteran's information via Google Form by Friday November 4th. If you participated last year, please fill out the form to update your child(ren)'s grade and homeroom. If no other information has changed, just indicate and the information supplied last year will be used.

Additionally we will be collecting any excess Halloween candy for Treat for Troops via Soldier's Angels. A donation box will be placed in the front lobby starting Monday October 31st thru November 11th. Please ensure all  wrappers are intact. No homemade items are accepted. Anyone willing to sponsor the shipping cost to Solider's Angels please reach out to us via email   ramseyschoolpto@gmail.com.

Fundraising

Pie Shoppe--Orders open thru midnight on October 13th! Order through our Square site. Delivery will be Tuesday October 25th from 5:30-6:30 pm at the school.

Stuff-a-Gator--We have a few gators remaining! Purchase through Square. Gators will be delivered to your child's classroom.

School Store--Thank you to all who have participated! We've had a great response! Students are still able to sign up and receive a participation prize. Additional prizes earned through the program will be coming soon and delivered to classrooms. This is an on-going program so additional prizes can be earned all year!

Volunteering

A final note on volunteering! The best way to ensure you are able to participate in school activities to the fullest capacity is to obtain your independent clearances. For example, field trips are making a comeback this year but only Independently cleared volunteers will be able to attend. Information on the required documentation can be found at https://www.gatewayk12.org/resources/volunteer-resources. Once your paperwork is submitted your application will need to be approved by the school board (meetings are mid-month).
