ACT 158 – Pennsylvania Graduation Requirements
Pennsylvania’s Act 158 (effective with the class of 2023) says every student must show they are ready for life after high school, but it offers five flexible ways to do it. Students can:
(1) Score “proficient” on each Keystone Exam in Algebra I, Literature, and Biology.
(2) Reach a Keystone composite score of 4,452 while earning at least one proficient score and no score below basic.
(3) Alternate Assessment pathway, combining strong results on tests like the SAT, ACT, or AP exams with good course grades or college acceptance.
(4) Evidence-Based pathway that gathers achievements such as industry credentials, dual-enrollment credits, community service, or a verified job offer.
(5) A Career and Technical Education pathway that pairs coursework with an industry certification or skills assessment.
School counselors will work with students and help families decide which option best matches the child’s goals. To check a student's progress towards Act 158, login to the Skyward website and click Endorsement Progress on left menu.
