What is the cost of the before and after school programs?
The before and after school programs are subsidized and the cost will vary based on each family’s annual income. More information about the specific qualifications and how to enroll are provided in the program flyers.
Can elementary students attend the before and after school program at Gateway Middle School?
Elementary students will not be eligible to attend the before and after school programs at Gateway Middle School. Elementary students will have the opportunity to attend a program that is established within their respective elementary school.
Will bussing be provided for the before or after-school programs?
Bussing will not be provided for students to attend the before or after-school programs.
Who makes up the staff for the before and after school program?
Staff members working within the before and after-school programs can be made up of Gateway employees but hired through the after-school program provider and others that are hired by the after-school program provider. A priority is placed on hiring Gateway teachers to ensure a seamless transition to meet each student’s academic and emotional needs. Any employee that is hired from outside the Gateway School District must have documented childcare experience. All staff will be required to complete training through the PA Department of Human Services. In addition, all staff members will obtain the necessary clearances and background checks required to work with children.
How is the time in the before and after school program at Gateway Middle School structured?
In most cases, students will be separated by grade levels. A typical session will include academic support in the areas of reading and math and at least 45 minutes of physical activity. The before and after school programs will emphasize opportunities for physical activity and play over screen time.
